"Robin Anderson hits another winner!"
Grady Harp - Amazon
May 14, 2012
Anyone who has read previous books by the inimitable Robin Anderson is in for a treat with DIVOON DADDY. Anderson has polished his recipe for entertainment to a fare-thee-well. He creates impossibly ludicrous characters who happen to bounce off each other in the most unexpected way, fills his story with incidents that can only fall into the 'naughty range', and yet his manner of writing is so sophisticated and a solid that about one third of the way through his books the reader realizes the farce is meant as good-humored fun and should not be taken too seriously or dissected or analyzed because the author is always just around the corner (or on the next page) with a guffaw to top all previous ones.
If the reader thinks Anderson will never be able to top the wild characters of his previous novels such as the hilarious transvestites of TRANNYS TO TIARAS then swallow hard and discover Maddy Marie Jensen, the diminutive heroine and her twelve year old fiancé Harry and the addition of their progeny, Tallulah and Toby in a Robin Anderson typical wild journey to glamorous and outrageous spots. The language is purple indeed and the encounters are so varied and so 'can't-top-this-one' that the reader will be left breathless from laughter by books weird ending. Climb on board, if you've a mind to, and go for another outrageous Robin Anderson ride.

"F*** ‘em if They Can’t Take a Joke"

Family and friends
Those of you who regularly read my reviews know that I am a huge fan of Robin Anderson. He is innovative, imaginative and has a huge sense of humor but before I read this book, I had not seen how totally beserk he could get.. He is also one of the most prolific authors writing today and while I love this book, I am really waiting for the next one but I cannot yet say why.
Madeleine (Maddy) Marie Jensen is very proud of her “divoon daddy”. She and her fiancé Harry begin quite an adventure because of “DD” and are soon joined by their love child, Tallulah and her boyfriend, Toby. They go from London to Paris to South Africa to the Caribbean and this is one of the most riotous journeys you will ever read about. They are joined by an unbelievably believable cast of characters which includes Maddy’s mother and her friend Delores Mayo, her sometimes lover, Georgio, Timothy Sanders-Snype, a ruthless and feminine interior decorator, the devious Tembo, Michael Cole, a double dealer and of course, Divoon Daddy, himself.
Anderson is known for creating wild characters and he outdoes himself here. These are bigger than life and totally ridiculous yet endearing at the same time and when they all come together, mayhem ensues. While the action is, shall we say, somewhat “obscene”, Anderson writes with total class, style and grace and what may at first seem “blue” actually becomes farcical and in good fun. I am sure that Anderson is laughing with us as we read. The dialogue is not for the faint-of-heart but then none of this is meant to be taken seriously anyway and I tell you that this is a remedy that is sure to pull anyone out of a foul mood or mild depression. I was left wondering how I would react if I suddenly found myself in company such as this and if that ever happens; I will just remember what I read here. Was it Bette Midler or Sophie Tucker who said, “F*** ‘em if they can’t take a joke”?

"Catholic and/or gay"

They say that your friends are God's apology for your family. I am not sure if Anderson's recent opus confirms or refutes that aphorism, but I certainly enjoyed the journey on the way to finding out. Having said that, I still do not know which I prefer: my conservative, Catholic family or my newly-found and even more dysfunctional gay family. Robin: please write me another novel or two so that I can finally find my way and make an ultimate decision. In the meantime, thank-you for the 'ride'. Your 5 stars are there for the taking.
